The man who allegedly ran from a Johns Creek courtroom and led police on a chase Tuesday after being sentenced for a probation violation is now in the Fulton County Jail, where he will go before a magistrate Thursday on new charges related to Tuesday's chase.

James Earl Johnson, 44, was booked into the Fulton County Jail early Wednesday on new charges of DUI, reckless driving, fleeing and attempting to elude, aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction and driving with a suspended license.

He was given probation after a conviction on DUI and driving without a license charges last year, according to Channel 2 Action News. But he owed more than $2,000 in fines and hadn't paid them, so a Johns Creek judge sentenced him to 63 days in jail. After the sentence was announced Tuesday morning, witnesses say Johnson ran out of the courtroom, jumped into a car and drove off, according to Channel 2.

Police, who later said Johnson was intoxicated, chased him to an office park where he pulled over. Police used a Taser on Johnson and arrested him.
