Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones confirmed that the student did have a weapon and was in custody, but said the school, which is on McDonough Boulevard in southeast Atlanta, was not on lockdown.

According to police dispatch reports, the 16-year-old boy had a loaded .40-caliber handgun.
