A motorist died Tuesday morning after he wrecked his car on a Clayton County interstate, then got out and ran into traffic in what police said was a suicide.

According to Clayton County police, the man was driving eastbound on I-285 near Riverdale Road when he deliberately veered into the median wall.

The man, whose name has not been released, survived the wreck, but jumped over the median wall and ran into westbound traffic.

He was hit by several westbound cars and later died at an area hospital, police said.

A woman in the car was injured in the wreck, but is expected to recover.

All lanes of I-285 in both directions were shut down while police investigated the incident.

The incident was the third suicide of the summer on I-285.

On June 12, a man jumped to his death from a Spaghetti Junction overpass just 10 days after another man committed suicide by jumping from an overpass in the same I-285/I-85 interchange.
