Most of Piedmont Avenue has reopened, an Atlanta police spokesman said just after 7 p.m. Friday.

Just as the Friday rush-hour commute got underway, downed power lines forced officials to close Piedmont Avenue from Monroe Drive to East Morningside Drive.

While one northbound lane remained blocked at 7:06 p.m., Officer John Chafee told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution “the rest has been opened.”
