Amy Winehouse (Sept. 14, 1983- Jul 23, 2011) Just 27 when she died, the British soul singer had fought drug and alcohol problems for years. She died with lethal amounts of alcohol in her blood.

Sherwood Schwartz (Nov. 14 1916-July 12, 2011) Writer/producer Schwartz, who created "Gilligan's Island" and "The Brady Bunch," was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles on March 7, 2008.

State Rep. Bobby Franklin ( Feb. 13, 1957-July 26, 2011) was a Cobb County Republican who skirted the outer reaches of conservatism and helped design the current state flag.

Betty Ford (April 8, 1918-July 8, 2011) The former first lady's triumph over drug and alcohol addiction, and her openness about her problem, inspired her Betty Ford Center and legions of addicts who sought treatment there.

Facundo Cabral (May 22, 1937-July 9, 2011) Argentine singer and songwriter Facundo Cabral was killed in an ambush by gunmen in Guatemala, The Associated Press reported. He was one of Latin America's most famous folk singers.

Dan Peek (Nov. 1, 1950-July 24, 2011) Peek, front, with Gerry Beckley, left, and Dewey Bunnel, was a founding member of the band America and singer of hits that included "A Horse With No Name" and "Ventura Highway" before he left the group to perform contemporary Christian music. He died in bed in his home in Farmington, Mo., his father said.

Hideki Irabu, (May 5, 1969- July 27, 2011) A baseball star in Japan, the he faltered after his debut as a Yankees pitcher. His died by hanging in an apparent suicide.
