Volunteers scour a drought-revealed peninsula on the shores of the lake. About 35 people turned out for the cleanup effort.

Bonney Putney, a Lake Lanier resident and volunteer board member for the "Rivers Alive" program sponsored by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, surveys a collection of rusty 55 gallon drums that were revealed from the bottom of Lake Lanier as the lake dried up during the current drought .

Volunteers scoured the shores of the lake for trash and debris that was at one time under water at Mary Alice Park in Cumming.

A vast area of usually water-covered boat ramp is dry from the drought.
