Volunteers rescued hundreds of pet dogs from earthquake-hit cities and have provided them with medical treatment at the facility.

A recent federal decision has raised hopes for parents like the Eaves, who rely on Medicaid to help with the care of severely disabled children. Eaves says doctors never expected Rachael to make it past her fifth birthday, but Rachael's fighting spirit and the constant care she's received has made the difference.

Police officers chase a demonstrator who is carrying a stone during a protest in Santiago, Chile, on Wednesday. Police used tear gas and water cannons in several Chilean cities to scatter thousands of students and school teachers protesting a government-sponsored education bill.
