Crews search Carrollton crash site

Photos: Crews search for a third passenger on Monday after a small plane crashed Sunday in Carrollton after taking off from Cobb County Airport-McCollum Field.

Emergency crews work Monday morning, searching the area at Shadinger Lake near Carrollton where a small plane crashed on Sunday. The Cessna single-engine four-seater was en route to the Kobalt Tools 500 NASCAR race in Henry County.

Members of the Spalding/Pike Underwater Recovery Team dove into the lake on Monday to search for the body of the plane's pilot.

The plane with three people aboard left Cobb County Airport--McCollum Field Sunday morning and crashed into Shadinger Lake about 9 a.m. about three miles southwest of the State University of West Georgia.

The three people on the plane have been identified as Timothy Dean Miller, 40, of Woodstock and Brian Kearney, 51, and his wife Christa, 45, of Marietta.

The first crews to arrive at the scene on Sunday found the bodies of a man and a woman. Emergency rews were back at work on Monday searching for the third.

Crews had already used a crane to pull the left side of the plane's cockpit, four seats and a badly mangled fuselage and tail section from the water on Sunday.

The cockpit's right side and the aircraft's engine and wings remained in the lake Monday morning.

Carroll County fire chief Gary Thomas said Thomas said visibility in the lake was 'near zero.' He said some of the wreckage was lying under 20 feet of water in the deepest part of the lake.
