PHOTOS: Firefighters help rescue animals from fairgrounds fire

Dozens of animals are safe after an overnight fire at the Washington State Fairgrounds burned the building that housed the petting zoo.

Just before midnight Sunday Central Pierce Fire responded to Evergreen Hall on the Washington State Fairgrounds for a two-alarm fire.

Firefighters arrived to find huge flames engulfing the building.

The Spring Fair had wrapped up several hours before and there were still animals inside the building.

All but one of the animals was rescued with minimal injury. A piglet died in the fire.

Evergreen Hall is one of the oldest buildings on the fairgrounds.

It was just remodeled last year to house the agriculture and floral departments at last year's Washington State Fair.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
