Fight leads to shooting near MARTA station, police say

July 28, 2019

A man and a woman were wounded when an argument escalated into a shooting near the Five Points MARTA station and Underground Atlanta, Atlanta police said.

The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. Saturday near Alabama and Broad streets, police spokesman Officer James White said. Witnesses told Channel 2 Action News they heard about 15 gunshots.

White said two men got into a fight and one pulled out a gun and started shooting. The other man returned fire, and the woman was shot in the crossfire, Channel 2 reported. One man stayed at the scene of the shooting, and he and the injured woman were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Their conditions are not known.

The other man was spotted getting into a car and driving away, White said. Police said the suspect is believed to have been shot in the hip.

The investigation is ongoing.
