A DeKalb County multi-use trail is set to expand into Chamblee after county leaders approved 6.5 miles of new paths.

The Peachtree Creek Greenway, which is currently a mile-long path in Brookhaven, will extend from Clairmont Road through Spaghetti Junction to Silverbacks Stadium, according to a concept plan approved by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners earlier in April. The plan also includes spur connections to nearby neighborhoods, parks and commercial areas.

A three-mile section is underway in Brookhaven, and supporters envision the path eventually spanning 12 miles, connecting the Atlanta Beltline to I-285.

In a Facebook post, Commissioner Ted Terry said he’s, “proud to support the expansion of multi-use biking and walking trails” across DeKalb. The North Fork Peachtree Creek Comprehensive Concept Plan vote, which took place April 13, was unanimous.

Proud to support the expansion of multi-use biking and walking trails across our county.

The PATH Foundation, an organization that oversees multi-use trail implementations in Georgia, will receive $76,600 to make the expansion. A public meeting will take place at a later date regarding the path expansion.

Peachtree Creek Greenway is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and has three trailheads. More information is available at peachtreecreek.org.
