An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death for a 26-year-old inmate, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Andrew Scott Pittman, 26, was found unconscious in a jail bathroom Friday morning and could not be resuscitated, according to Cpl. Ashley Henson.

Pittman had been jailed without bond since Nov. 14 and was awaiting trial on drug charges, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a probation violation, Henson said. Pittman spent two months in state prison in 2010 following an aggravated assault conviction, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

The GBI is conducting an autopsy and toxicology tests to determine Pittman’s cause of death, Henson said.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the death does not appear to be due to any altercation or act of violence,” Henson said in an emailed statement.
