Rick Douglas Simmons, 19, of Estacada, was charged with attempted second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, second-degree criminal mischief and recklessly endangering another person, the newspaper reported.

Clackamas County sheriff's deputies were called to the grocery store's parking lot in Estacada, where Simmons was being held down by two customers, KPTV reported. According to deputies, Simmons was bleeding from cuts on his arms, the television station reported.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Simmons allegedly shoved one woman and asked her to call police, then walked across the parking lot and punched the 71-year-old woman in the face, briefly knocking her unconscious, KPTV reported.

Simmons then got into the woman’s vehicle and drove it into a bottle recycling machine, the television station reported. That is when customers removed him from the truck and held him until police arrived.

Simmons told authorities he had taken hallucinogenic mushrooms earlier that afternoon, The Oregonian reported.
