The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a father of eight in Norcross.

The man was shot Sunday afternoon inside an apartment on Rockbridge Court. He died at the scene. Another man who was inside the home at the time of the shooting escaped through a window, the police said. He is not considered a suspect.

Police would only say the man was 42-years-old, but Channel 2 Action News identified him as Joe Love. The station said that he proposed to his fiancee two days before Christmas and had eight children.

“He just wanted better for everyone around him,” Love’s fiancee, Shunique Jones, told Channel 2. “That wasn’t supposed to be him. That shouldn’t have been him.”

The station reported that Love ran a pressure washing business and was attempting to launch his own radio station. His family believes that robbery was the motive behind the shooting.
