One man is dead and another is in the hospital after an overnight shootout in southwest Atlanta.

The gunfire broke out shortly before midnight Thursday at a townhome on Brownlee Road.

“One male is deceased inside the residence and the other victim was outside the residence,” Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton told Channel 2 Action News. “It appears that the two individuals were involved in some type of verbal altercation.”

The dead man was identified as 25-year-old Brandon Jones, according to Channel 2. The second man, whose name has not been released, was in surgery early Friday at Grady Memorial Hospital.
