One person was killed early Saturday in a multi-vehicle wreck on the Downtown Connector, police said.

The wreck happened just after midnight on I-75/85 southbound near Ga. 166.

Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee said a Jeep Compass left the roadway, struck a retaining wall and re-entered the interstate lanes, coming to rest in a travel lane.

Three approaching vehicles came to a stop for the Jeep but a fourth vehicle, a Volvo X90, did not and struck the rear of the third vehicle, a Kia Forte, Chafee said.

He said the Kia was extensively damaged, and the front seat passenger in the Kia was killed.

That person’s name has not been released.

Several other injuries were reported, but Chafee said they did not appear to be life-threatening.

Chafee said alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash, and the drivers of the Jeep and the Volvo were taken into custody.

The Volvo driver, 28-year-old Hollis Hamilton Floyd, was charged with DUI/alcohol (less safe), reckless driving, first-degree homicide by vehicle and following too closely.

Charges were not immediately available for Jeremy Crawley, the 36-year-old driver of the Jeep.
