Spernow, William

SPERNOW, William
It is with profound sadness that the family of William "Bill" Spernow of Suwanee, GA announce his passing on December 5, 2021 at the age of 73 years. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Catherine and siblings Patricia O'Reilly, Elizabeth Peake, James Spernow, Daniel Spernow, and David Spernow, two nephews (Michael O'Reilly and Andrew Spernow), five nieces (Theresa O'Reilly, Christine Lennox, Erin Lagasse, Kacy Spernow, and Cierra Spernow), and one step-niece (Melissa Huffman). Bill was also a "Big Brother" to his "Little Brother" Kent McCallough from Fresno, CA. Bill was predeceased by his parents William and Sarah Spernow and infant siblings Vincent and Theresa.
Bill was from Pompton Plains, NJ and after moving to CA, he earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Criminal Justice and Computer Science in 1996 from California State University, Sacramento, CA. His employment with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department led to a Computer Crime Training position with the SEARCH Group. In that role, he was an innovator in designing/teaching hands-on courses for local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. This unique blend of education and work experience facilitated the advancement of his career in becoming an accomplished Information Security Executive with special focus on corporate data security. At the time of his death, he was the Chief Forensic Officer with Law & Forensics while maintaining his Private Investigator license in the State of GA for his Security Mentors company. He has been featured on the cover of CISO magazine, quoted in the Wall Street Journal and many other technical related magazines, and co-authored a book Law Firm Cybersecurity. Additionally, he served as a Distinguished Special Lecturer for the University of New Haven, CT.
Over his career and especially during his recent hospital confinement and since his passing, the following praises have been coming in
"He was a special soul that had many accomplishments in his lifetime. I enjoyed our conversations and liked how he always pushed me to think outside the box." "Bill was that way
teaching and joking and being a really good mentor and friend to me." "Bill was a Mentor to me and several others
and Bill was looked up to by all who knew him. Your husband was one, if not the greatest, forensic guy in the world." "It is a privilege and an honor to have Bill Spernow as part of our team. He has been a fantastic mentor and teacher." "I always enjoyed Bill's steadfastness and perseverance to triumph in all situations and to remain upbeat despite all odds - and, I always admired his determination to find elegant technical solutions, especially to the cybersecurity problems that
was created to solve."
A Mass and Memorial Service will be held in New Jersey at a later date this year to celebrate Bill's life and contributions.
Bill has always strongly supported dog rescue organizations and, in particular, Golden Retrievers. He and Cathy have owned four Goldens over the course of their married life. If so inclined, memorial donations in Bill's name may be made via https://adoptagoldenatlanta.com/how-you-can-help/donate/.
