OWEN, H. Andrew "Andy"
H. Andrew Owen "Andy" passed on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 surrounded by family. Survivors include: wife, Ann Monroe Owen, Decatur, GA; daughters, Amy Owen Odom (Alex), Atlanta, GA, Laura Trammell Owen (Alan), Athens, GA; granddaughters Trammell Draper Odom and Virginia Durham Odom, both of Atlanta; grandson, Alexander Burroughs Odom, Jr.; sister Sally Owen Weaver (Woody) Tallassee, AL; brothers-in-law, James Robert Monroe Darien, GA and Woodrow Weaver Tallassee, AL; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Andy is a graduate of Newnan High School '58 and LaGrange College '62. Andy went on to serve his country as a US NAVY carrier-based pilot. He graduated Emory University School of Law '71, with distinction. Andy, was with the Georgia Attorney General's Office until he entered private practice, first with Hurt, Richardson, Garner, & Todd. Andy, Bob McCauley, and Tim Sweeney formed McCauley, Owen & Sweeney. Eventually it evolved to the former Owen, Gleaton, Jones, Egan & Sweeney. His specialty was primarily medical malpractice defense with some aviation products liability defense. A lifetime Methodist, Andy served as student minister in the West Point Circuit, Long Cane UMC, worshipped in Methodist Churches in Virginia, and as member Decatur First UMC in the early seventies. He attended Candler School of Theology. A longtime member of Glenn Memorial UMC, he served as youth church-school teacher with Bill Mallard and as chair of the Glenn Pastor Parish Relations Board. A memorial service will be at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, April 14, 2022 at 2:30 PM. Interment, May 9, 2022 at The Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA 3:00 PM.The family suggests gifts in Andy's memory may be sent to Glenn Memorial UMC; LaGrange College; Side by Side Brain Injury Clubhouse, 1010 Main Street, Stone Mountain; Advocates for Bartow's Children, 85 Monroe Crossing, Emerson, GA, or a charity of your choice.
