KATH, Dr. Donald E.
We are sad to announce that on December 30, 2020, at the age of 89 years old, Dr. Ronald E. Kath passed away. Kath; daughter and son-in-law, Ronna and James Woodruff of Kennesaw, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Miles and Cindy Kath of Hampstead, North Carolina; and son and daughter-in-law, Randy Kath and Deana Sneyd of Douglasville, Georgia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Woodruff and his spouse, Michael Hutchinson, Joshua Woodruff, Jeffrey Kath, and Aliyah Kath. Dr. Kath had a long and successful career as an Electrical Engineer at IBM where, among other innovations, he developed the first pacemaker. As a second career, in 1993, Dr. Kath, was asked by the President of Life University in Marietta, Georgia to initiate and develop a Bachelor's Degree Program in Business Administration with a specialization in Management. He developed the curriculum and taught the content, incorporating real-business experiences. Dr. Kath also initiated Associate and Bachelor degrees in Computer Information Management to expand opportunities for Life students. He focused on student success and provided scholarships to outstanding students to assist them financially. Upon his retirement in February, 2010, Dr. Kath was designated as Professor Emeritus - the only professor to earn that designation at Life University. Dr. Kath had various other successful ventures and hobbies. He traveled to the Ukraine on numerous occasions on Mission trips to help set up an economic business infrastructure where none existed after the breakaway from the Soviet Union. Dr. Kath was an active church member, singing in the choir and was an Elder at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Sandy Springs, Georgia for many years. He loved to play golf with his friends on a weekly basis and play cards with friends as often as he could.
