ISABEL (HARALSON), Linda Louise

Linda Louise (Haralson) Isabel, an amazing and significantly influential person during her lifetime. (September 11, 1939 – August 22, 2021) She was the first-born child of James and Harriet Haralson (deceased), in Memphis, Tennessee. Linda had two siblings, Kathryn (Haralson) Bowers and Gloria (Haralson) Spellen.

Linda attended Hamilton High School in Memphis, TN and graduated a year early in 1957. After completing her high school education, Linda attended LeMoyne College. (Later to become Lemoyne-Owen) on a full academic scholarship. In 1960 she graduated from Lemoyne College with a B.S. Degree in Mathematics. She later attended Arkansas State University where she received her Master of Science Degree in Counselor Education and Guidance. She received a second Masters Degree in Technical Education from Vanderbilt in Tennessee and did further studies toward her Doctorate at the University of Colorado, Ft. Collins, a Phd.(ABD) in Education with focus on handicaps and disability from Colorado State University. As well as post graduate classes at Keller School of Business, Atlanta, GA.

Linda married in 1959 to Joseph Isabel ("1982"). The two enjoyed bridge and going to football games. In July of 1960, the couple welcomed their only child Anthony Wayne Isabel.

Linda's career as an educator and student spanned over 60 years. She started in the Memphis City School system teaching at Porter Junior High and Northside High School. Her career journey also afforded the opportunities to teach at Tampa High School in Tampa, FL, Counseling and Faculty at Roane State College, Oakridge, TN, and finally Senior Mathematics Professor at Devry University, Atlanta, GA where she eventually retired with over 30 years of service.

Linda Isabel was very active in community and social organizations. She was a Diamond Life Member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. joining the Kappa Iota Zeta Chapter of Atlanta, GA.

In 1982. As a member of her local chapter, she received many awards and served in various offices, including chapter president. She was instrumental in establishing the current location of the Sigma Zeta Foundation in East Point, Georgia.

She was also a member of other civic and social organizations, including but not limited to:

an active member of The LeMoyne-Owen Alumni Association, The American Business Women's Association (ABWA) (Pyramid Chapter as historian); The Atlanta 4H Club; and she was a devoted member of the Solid Rock AME Zion Church, Decatur, GA for over 25 years.

Professor Linda Isabel lovingly, academically and philanthropically touched this world and so many lives. She leaves behind her loving son, Anthony W. Isabel with his wife Natallia, A loving sister, Gloria Haralson Spellen and a host of nieces and nephews.
