His father was transferred to McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington just as he entered Jr High, and then he moved back to Sumter for his Senior year.
After graduating from Edmonds High School in 1969, he ventured to the big city of Atlanta to attend Georgia Tech. He never left Atlanta. He completed his co-op at Warner Robins Air Force Base and graduated in the Class of 1976 with an Industrial Engineering Degree.

Charlie was a good and kind man who loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved his summer trips to the Harper Beach House, "this 'il Do" in Ocean Isle, NC. He got more pleasure at teaching his kids and grandkids how-to deep-sea fish than anything else. He was a terrific bowler and bowled in a lot of leagues in the
Atlanta area. The grandchildren loved to get LIFE LESSONS from Grandpa. He had a quick wit and loved corny jokes so it always seemed to be a contest as to who could come up with the latest and best.
