GERSHON (KAUFMAN), Cary

Cary Kaufman Gershon, 72, of Sandy Springs, passed away peacefully in her sleep in hospice care, October 18, 2021.

Born in Minneapolis, MN, she lived there for most of her early life prior to her marriage. Cary enjoyed catering sales and later, she worked as an insurance agent. Still later, she worked for The Mpls.Transit Authority in claims adjustments. Married on July 1st, 1979, Cary and husband Jeff, relocated to Atlanta in 1980 to open a business. They worked together in several other business ventures over the years. Cary had a lovely voice and was a member of the choir at Temple Emanuel, Sandy Springs, for many years where they were also members.

Cary's illnesses started in 2003. Originally given only a 20% chance of living beyond 2 years, she greatly beat those odds and participated in many family and friend's happy occasions. Though, over the years, her condition worsened, she still participated even as her mental capacities became more compromised and physically, she was eventually confined to a wheelchair.

Though "Not the Life I Ordered", she lived her final 18.5 years with no complaints. Cary lived these years with dignity, grace and charm.

Cary was preceded in death by parents, Esther and Marvin Kaufman of Mpls; mother in law, Muriel Gershon of Atl.

Survived by husband Jeff Gershon of Atl.; son, Andrew Gershon of NYC; brother, Bruce (Jeanie) Kaufman of New Hope, MN; aunt, Judith Goldberg of St Paul; father in law, Burton Gershon of Atl; aunt, Marian Gershon Radwin of Birmingham; and many cousins, great-cousins, and dear friends, of which Jan (Bill) Kuretsky was the dearest and was there for Cary through all her hard times as well as the good times.

Arrangements were by Hodroff-Epstein Memorial Chapel, Mpls. Graveside service was on Oct. 21 at Adath Chesed Shel Emes Cemetary, Crystal, MN. Donations to The Alzheimers Assoc or local "feed the hungry" programs appreciated. No flowers, please.
