ECHOLS, Pauline Farr

Pauline Farr Echols, age 87, passed away on January 4, 2021, in Milledgeville, Georgia. A native of Milledgeville, she was the daughter of Paul and Bettie Zachary Farr. She attended the Peabody Laboratory School and was a graduate of the Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College), where she was an active member of the A Cappella Choir and the Phoenix Honor Society. She married George Lee Echols, Jr., in 1954. The couple lived at Fort Benning, Georgia in North Carolina, and in Tennessee before returning to Augusta, Georgia where Dr. Echols practiced pediatrics for many years. Upon her husband's retirement, they returned to their hometown where they were able to renew old friendships and establish many special new ones. Polly enjoyed membership in the Milledgeville Music Club, the Milledgeville Garden Club, and the Nancy Hart Chapter of the DAR. As a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, she served on the Altar Guild and provided the music for the St. Stephen's weekly worship service at the Georgia War Veterans Home. In 2019 she received the Honorary Alumna Award from Georgia College.

She was preceded by her parents, her husband of 64 years, and her brother, the Reverend Jonathan Zachary Farr. She is survived by her four children: George Lee Echols, III (Margaret) of Atlanta, GA; the Reverend Ellen E. Purdum (David) of Decatur, GA; Erin E. Pervis (David) of Athens, Greece; and Martha E. Mixon (George) of Nairobi, Kenya; her grandchildren: Jordan Spooner Echols of Atlanta, GA; Jackson Zachary Echols of North Liberty, Iowa; Clara Grace Pervis of Greenville, SC; Josiah Seth Pervis of Jackson, MS; Beth Mixon Seo (Chris) of Washington, D.C.; Carrie Anne Mixon of Trenton, GA; and James William Mixon, Nathan Lee Mixon, and Laura Marie Mixon of Nairobi, Kenya; and her brother James Howard Farr (Judy) of Danielsville, GA.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Georgia Military College Foundation for the Bettie Zachary Farr Scholarship Fund, 201 East Greene St., Milledgeville, GA 31061, or to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church for the stained glass windows restoration fund, P.O.
