A North Carolina woman said her 12-year-old daughter was bitten nearly 50 times by a neighborhood dog after she exited her school bus, WTVD reported.
The attack on the seventh-grader occurred Monday afternoon in Sanford, the television station reported.
The girl's mother, Lateta Verbal, said the dog is normally chained up in a neighbor's backyard, but the animal was loose Monday, WTVD reported.
Verbal said people were standing around her daughter in a yard, but no one had called 911, the television station reported.
Verbal called for help and the girl was taken to a hospital.
Lee County Animal Control seized the dog, which will be under quarantine for 10 days pending the outcome of a police investigation, WTVD reported.
