A teenager was bit in the head twice and dragged from camp by a bear while spending the night at a Colorado Christian retreat center, according to news reports.

The attack happened early Sunday morning at Glacier View Ranch, which is northwest of Boulder, according to the Denver Post.

The camper is 18 or 19 years old and awoke around 4 a.m. to the bear attacking him and trying to drag him away, Denver 7 reported. Other campers at the retreat center in the town of Ward tried to scare the bear, and it eventually left.

The victim was taken to a hospital, but has already been released, Denver 7 reported.

According to its website, Glacier View Ranch is high-altitude “place to experience God as Creator, Re-Creator, and Friend.”

Black bears can weigh up to 275 pounds, and while they are naturally not aggressive, they will become so when trying to get food, according to Colorado Parks & Wildlife.
