A 23-year-old St. Augustine woman is facing a child abuse charge after she was accused of hitting a 14-year-old in a fight at an apartment complex.

Police say the incident happened at the Woodlawn Terrace Apartments in St. Augustine.

Monday they were called by the mother of a 14-year-old who was involved in a fight.

According to the report, the mother, Tiana Bellamy, said that after the fight was broken up, a woman hit her son several times.

That woman was identified as Jessica Tobbler, 23. She denied hitting the teen and told police in the report that she "was only trying to break up (a) juvenile fight."

Someone in the apartment complex showed police cellphone video of what happened after the group of people had cleared from watching the fight.

An officer states on the report that, based on that video, "this attack was unprovoked and not in self-defense of herself or others."

Police say they cannot release the video because it is evidence in an ongoing investigation.

Tobbler was arrested and charged with cruelty toward a child.

Action News checked her criminal history with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, which showed that she had been arrested in 2013 for disorderly conduct.

Action News was not able to reach Tobbler for comment.
