13-year-old dog waits months for his deceased owner to come home
A dog in California shows how faithful pets can be to their owners.
ABC News reported that a 13-year-old Australian cattle dog waited for months for his deceased owner to return home in Tehachapi, California.
He was fed by a neighbor, but lived in the yard of his deceased owner's home, which had been boarded up.
But rescue group Marley's Mutts Dog Rescue stepped in and rescued him, and the dog, whom the rescue named Ricky Bobby, is now up for adoption.
He is unique because he is open to change and not set in his ways," shelter founder Zach Skow told The Dodo. "For over a decade he has been living in a bad frequency, guarding his property with his life. Not letting anyone in.
"He wouldn't let us in, but after time, some love and the knowledge we weren't going to hurt him, he decided to go with us. He made a big leap of faith and continues to improve."
The rescue's concern is the pup's weight. After being fed a diet of Spam and burgers, he's 108 pounds.
But the shelter said he is in good health otherwise. He has a strong heart and no thyroid issues. Best of all, he enjoys long walks so he is well on his way to his 25-pound weight loss goal.
