Julien Sandlin is likely going to need skin grafts because of the Aug. 6 incident, his mother Ashley Lyons told WDAF.

"It's a very painful process for him," Lyons told the Kansas City Star. "There is a lot of anxiety. There is a lot of anger. There is a lot of confusion. He's trying to maintain the best that he can, for a 7-year-old."

Julien was playing outside with another boy who lives in the same apartment complex when the 8-year-old child started pouring nail polish remover on Julien, Lyons said.

His mother was not home, but an older brother and another adult were there, according to the Kansas City Star.

"My son kept saying 'Stop. What are you doing?' Julien kept telling him to leave him alone and that's when he decided to burn him," Lyons told WDAF.

The family started a GoFundMe account to help pay with medical costs.
