A 7-year-old boy has died after he fell off a holiday parade float Saturday in Tennessee.

According to WKRN-TV and the Wilson Post, the child fell off the float trailer in a parking lot as the Mount Juliet Christmas Parade came to a close about 12:20 p.m. After he fell, the trailer struck him, Mount Juliet police said. A witness told WTVF that the boy's father was driving the truck pulling the float trailer.

The boy has been identified as Rowan Frensley, WTVF reported.

Emergency crews rushed the boy to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, including head trauma, the news outlets reported.

On Saturday night, the Tennessee Highway Patrol's Nashville District, which is investigating the incident, tweeted that the boy had died.

"It is with great sadness that victim of today's parade incident in Mount Juliet has passed away," the district wrote. "Please lift up this family at very difficult time."
