KTVI reported that Keira Stout was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer, two years ago. The cancer went into remission before returning in May 2016.
This week, a group of firefighters inducted Keira to their team as an honorary O’Fallon firefighter.
The gesture was meant to empower little Keira, but firefighters say she has had a much bigger impact on them.
"Her resiliency as a child to go through everything she has gone through in the past two years since she has had this cancer is just incredible," firefighter Tom Vogelgesang said . "If I’m having a bad day I can look at a picture of her and think about what she’s been through and my day is not so bad after all."
