On Sunday night at Wrestlemania, a young WWE fan from Pittsburgh made history. Connor “The Crusher” Michalek, an 8-year-old boy who died from cancer became the first-ever fan to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a recipient of The Warrior Award.
The award, which is named after legendary wrestler The Ultimate Warrior, is given to those exhibiting unwavering strength and perseverance.
Last year, Michalek had the opportunity to meet his hero, WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan. When he finally met Bryan, the two shared a special bond that encapsulated the attention of the WWE universe.
After meeting Bryan, Michalek met and bonded other WWE Superstars like Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. He even got to sit front row at Wrestlemania XXX.
Despite his illness, Connor kept fighting until the end. Sunday at his induction ceremony, Connor’s father Steve said his son just kept going.
“Connor took on his illness like a true champion,” said Steve Michalek. “He always got back up, stared cancer in the eye, smiled a little brighter and laughed a little longer.”
As the first-ever Warrior Award recipient, Connor Michalek is now forever immortalized in the WWE Hall of Fame alongside legendary wrestlers such as Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan and of course, The Ultimate Warrior.
