Ugliest dog contest.

A prominent under-bite, scrunched face and floppy ears are the hallmarks of a winner. Pabst, a boxer-mix rescued from a shelter by Miles Egstad of Citrus Heights, Calif., won the annual contest on Friday at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Northern California.

Miss Ellie, a blind 15-year-old Chinese Crested Hairless, won the pedigree category.

Rascal, a former world champion Chinese Crested, finished behind Pabst on Friday. Contestants this year had to provide veterinarian releases documenting the health of their dogs. As judge Brian Sobel says, "We were looking for dogs who were naturally ugly." And Pabst was.

Pabst's owner took home $1,600 in prize money, pet supplies and a modeling contract with House of Dog. Brent Ferris asks the audience their opinion on who should win the final round, Rascal or the winner.

Arf a mixed Corgi/Collie from Fallbrook. Calif., was entered in the mutt division of the World's Ugliest Dog Contest.

Pabst, a boxer mix, was a rescue dog adopted by Egstad three years ago. It was the first time a mutt has won the contest in more than seven years. Egstad, 25, first saw the contest on television and his friends urged him to enter his dog.

Egstad won $1,600 from the Sonoma-Marin Fair for sweeping all three rounds ($100 for mutt class, $500 for runoff with the pedigree class winner, and $1,000 for World⿿s Ugliest Dog).

"Ugly is the New Beautiful" was the theme for the fashion show Friday.
