A woman who was found on a street in California earlier this year, unable to recall who she was, has been reunited with her family thanks to an online campaign.
First responders found the woman in distress and unable to recall her identity in February in the beach community of Carlsbad. She was taken to a hospital where she said doctors diagnosed her with ovarian cancer and amnesia, according to the Associated Press. The woman required surgery to remove a large tumor.
With the help of hospital staff, the woman posted a plea on Facebook for help in locating her family.
She said she was recently discharged from the hospital. "My prognosis is not good and I pray my family will be found soon," she wrote.
The woman, whose real name is Ashley Menatta, has been identified by her family, according to her Facebook page. Menatta's nephew saw the story online and told his mother, who is Menatta's sister. Family members spoke to Menatta over the phone, in what was described as an "extremely emotional" reunion.
