According to The Indianapolis Star, that's the lesson one man learned Thursday night when police said he broke into the Indianapolis home of Karen Dolley.
Dolley, 43, said she was in bed when she heard the man's voice coming from her living room. She immediately sprang into action. Dolley, who learned medieval fighting skills from the Society for Creative Anachronism as a teenager, punched him 10 times, the Star reports. She then reached for her gun but couldn't find it. Instead, she used another weapon – a ninjato, a Japanese ninja sword. She said she cornered the man with the sword until police responded just minutes later.
The suspect, 30-year-old Jacob Wessel of Greenwood, was arrested and charged with residential entry, the Star reports. According to The Associated Press, he broke into the home through the back door and appeared to be "high on an unknown substance."
"At the end of the day, I'm glad to know that even if I wake up in the middle of the night, I'm not going down without a fight," Dolley told the Star.
