Authorities are investigating after a couple said video recorded in their Victorville, California, home shows a pet sitter abusing their puppy.
KCAL reported that a puppy sitter was looking after a 10-month-old puppy Tuesday. KABC reported that video shows the woman taking the dog, named Lucy, and slamming her to onto the floor.
The couple told KABC they got a motion alert in their phone from a home security app, and the husband was able to yell at the woman and tell her to leave.
"It's heartbreaking because the reason we use a pet sitter is because we love our pet, and we don't want to leave her unattended for very long because she is a baby," Amanda Roy, Lucy's owner, told KABC. "So, we trusted someone to come into our home and look after a pet that we consider a family member."
Roy got the sitter through the Rover pet sitting app. Her dog was not injured, she said.
Animal control is investigating the incident.
"The activity depicted in this video is shocking and appalling. We have permanently deactivated this sitter from our platform and will continue to investigate," the company said in a statement to KABC. "Any incident of this nature is extremely rare on our platform, and we take it very seriously. Additionally, we have offered to pay for any veterinary expenses that may have been incurred as a result of this incident. We have been assisting local law enforcement with their investigation and will continue to offer support."
