A South Carolina woman who was born during Hurricane Hugo in September 1989 gave birth during Hurricane Matthew.

"After going into labor at home and fighting rising flood waters to get to MUSC, Lestlis arrived safely at MUSC to deliver her new son," hospital officials said.

Hurricane Matthew officially made landfall just northeast of Charleston on Oct. 8, near McClellanville, South Carolina, as a Category 1 hurricane with 75 mph winds. Charleston received more than 10 inches of rain during Matthew, the NOAA said.
