Authorities in California arrested a 35-year-old woman over the weekend on suspicion of stabbing a 6-year-old girl in the face during a birthday party in Fresno, according to multiple reports.
Fresno County Jail records show authorities booked Crystal Lisa Parra, 35, into jail Saturday on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, injuring a child and mayhem.
Police arrested Parra after responding Saturday afternoon to a report of a stabbing at a birthday party in Central Fresno, KFSN-TV reported.
“The suspect became upset with the 6-year-old for some reason that we have not been able to determine and struck the victim in the face,” Fresno police Lt. Bill Dooley told the news station.
Witnesses told authorities Parra hit the victim once in the face while holding a sharp object described as "possibly a razor blade, we're not sure," Dooley said, according to the Fresno Bee.
The girl suffered a laceration to her face, just under her eye, according to the Bee. Dooley told the newspaper she was taken to a hospital Saturday and in stable condition after the attack.
It was not immediately clear whether the victim and the suspect were known to each other before Saturday. KSEE reported Parra lives at the home where the stabbing was reported. According to the Bee, the victim was a guest at the birthday party.
Authorities continue to investigate.
