A Wisconsin woman says that 22 minutes after buying an SUV and driving it off the lot, the vehicle burst into flames -- and now the dealership won’t refund her money.
Nicole Brandt told WITI-TV that on Wednesday, she bought a used 2006 Chrysler Pacifica from Big Bill's Auto in Milwaukee. Brandt said she was driving on a highway, headed to pick up her kids, when smoke began coming from under the hood.
Brandt pulled over and got out of the vehicle. Seconds later, she said, flames erupted under the windshield.
It was about 22 minutes after she had left the dealership.
"The car is a shell. A burnt-out shell," said Brandt.
Brandt said she went Thursday to Big Bill’s and that, after some haggling, the dealership agreed to give her a refund. However, she said the money hasn’t hit her account yet, and that she’s questioning if she’ll ever get her money back.
“The bank said that they should have at least seen the transaction -- even if it hasn't hit my account yet. They should at least see it. He didn't do the refund," she said.
Officials with the Grafton Fire Department and Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office told the TV station they will never be able to determine what really happened to the SUV.
No one at the dealership could be reached for comment, WITI reported.
