"There is no connection that we're aware of between the three sets of victims to either or any of the victims to Mr. Dalton," Kalamazoo prosecutor Jeff Getting told the Detroit Free Press. "They appear to have been chosen at random, because they were available."

Dalton has been married since 1995 and has two children. The family lived in rural Cooper Township, according to Michigan Radio. Neighbors said he enjoyed working on cars.

Dalton worked as an insurance adjuster and also moonlighted as an Uber driver. Dalton continued to pick up fares as he went to the various shooting scenes, authorities said. Uber has said that he passed its background check. He has no other known criminal or mental health history.

"We sure wouldn't have suspected anything," Sally Pardo, who lives across the street from the Dalton family, told Michigan Radio. "We were shocked. Absolutely shocked."

However, in recent days, he had grown paranoid, according to WWMT, and was known to randomly shoot guns.

Police said Dalton was taken into custody without incident.

"He seemed pretty even-tempered," Getting told the Detroit Free Press. "He did not present in a combative way or an emotional way at all."
