Lacey and Banks Farris struggled for years with infertility, a miscarriage and an unsuccessful adoption process.
When the Los Angeles couple tried again -- successfully -- to have a child, they recorded a video surprising their family.
"Our entire family was overjoyed for us," Lacey Farris, 28, told People. "Both sides had been praying for so long for us. They had no idea."
But the road to that point was challenging.
Lacey Farris struggled to get pregnant but learned she and her husband were expecting a girl in 2012.
At 20 weeks, Lacey Farris' water broke, and she had to deliver her daughter, named Poppy, early.
Poppy died at birth.
"It was the hardest thing we've had to go through," Lacey Farris told People. "I held Poppy, and I'm grateful for that. It put a face to my grief."
After grieving the loss, Lacey and Banks Farris pursued an open adoption.
But the mother decided to parent the child, according to People.
"I was hurt, but now I understand the mother made the right decision," Lacey Farris said. "The questions that came in from my family were hard though. I just didn't want to talk about it."
So the couple resolved to not let their family know about an adoption until they had their child in their arms.
The couple decided to try again to have a family and matched with a Georgia couple in December 2015 on an adoption website.
By April 18, after developing a close relationship with the biological mother, the couple had their newborn daughter, Finley.
People reported that when Finely was one month old, the couple introduced her to her extended family by taking an impromptu trip.
"We want to show (Finely) ... how excited our families were to meet her, so we made this little video of everyone's reactions when we showed up at their door holding a baby," Banks Farris, 35, wrote on Reddit.
"We couldn't wait for everyone to meet her," Lacey Farris said.
