A confrontation with a Martin County school crossing guard landed a Florida woman in jail Thursday morning, authorities said.
Elizabeth Jean Boynes, a retired Arizona police officer now living in Palm Beach County, nearly ran over a crossing guard in her vehicle after becoming angry that she couldn’t make her desired turn near an active school zone, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.
Boynes was arrested after deputies say she forced her way past the crossing guard.
“Wow, crossing guards have a lot of power here in Florida,” she told deputies, according to a statement released by the sheriff’s office.
The alleged incident happened shortly after 9 a.m. along Southwest Martin Highway near Hidden Oaks Middle School.
Boynes wanted to make a left turn, but was told by the crossing guard that she could only turn right, the sheriff’s office said. Boynes twice moved her car forward and bumped the crossing guard, the sheriff’s office said.

She allegedly made it past the guard and took off, but was caught by deputies a short time later. The confrontation with the crossing guard was caught on camera by a passing motorist, the sheriff's office said.
Boynes reportedly told deputies the crossing guard threw herself in front of the car.
She was booked into the Martin County Jail on $750 bond.
