The nation's finest have a responsibility to protect and serve.
Juanita Graham, a Washington, D.C., police officer, has made a commitment to go above and beyond the call of duty this holiday season.
Graham has been with the force for 25 years and is currently a truancy officer. This year, she's delivering care packages to the district's homeless and calling it "12 Days of Giving."
"It's my goal to let people know that someone does care about you and you're not forgotten about," she said to a local TV station.
The packages include toiletries, warm clothes, cards and sandwiches and are hand delivered, the report said.
Graham and her partner put the packages together by hand every morning before their shift then deliver them while on patrol. She uses her own money for items.
She seeks people who can use some form of assistance, helps them out and then asks "would you mind if I gave you a gift?"
Graham says passing judgement on the homeless isn't fair because their circumstances aren't always due to drugs and alcohol.
She hopes others are inspired to follow her example and do the same in their communities.
