The Game Commission doughnut-filled trap that was set up to lure a wandering bear in Monroeville succeeded in capturing the animal Thursday.

The bear had been spotted numerous times around a neighborhood in Monroeville for the past week.

After following the bear’s patterns, the Game Commission narrowed down the area and set up the trap.

They put doughnuts, reportedly the bear’s favorite food, in the trap that was designed to have a door close on the bear once it entered.

Game Commission officials wanted to get the bear trapped because the people who have been feeding it could be in danger.

“Once they get used to a free handout from people, they lose their natural fear of humans, and the last thing you want is a hungry bear to come up to you and not be afraid of you like it should be,” said Game Warden Dan Puhala.

The Game Commission plans to relocate the bear to a place where it can find its own food in nature.
