That giant tip was left by a New York City man named Mike.

"This woman had been serving us for almost a year now. She's a lovely individual, and she talked about how she was served an eviction notice last month," Mike told ABC.

The only requirement Mike gave was that the waitress contact a foundation called ReesSpecht Life, which was started by Rich Specht, Mike's eighth-grade science teacher from years ago. Rich started the foundation after his young son died in an accident.

Rich wrote on his website, "To think that someone I had a decade ago would honor my little boy or even remember his eighth-grade science teacher in such a way blows me away."

His story reminded us of a similar one from a couple of years ago.

Back in 2013, WTHR highlighted a Steak 'n Shake server who received a $446 tip on a $5.97 bill. That actually comes out to more than 7,000 percent.

The New York server, who wishes to remain anonymous, did tell Mike she'll pay his generosity forward.
