Authorities in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, say they plan to charge a suspected drunken driver after the man was caught on cellphone video, swerving and driving on the wrong side of the road moments before hitting a car head-on.

Authorities say the driver nearly ran another car off the road Monday night before hitting another head-on.

"You just never know when something like that can happen. You just always have to be careful wherever, whenever,” Dylan Shaffer said.

When Shaffer left his friend’s house late Monday night, he thought encountering a drunken driver was the last thing he would have to worry about.

Shaffer was nearly hit by the suspected drunken driver, who ultimately crashed into another car.

A minute long video posted to Facebook shows the suspected drunken driver weaving over the yellow line

"I got to the top of the hill, and I noticed there was a car coming straight at me, on my side of the road, facing me, and I was kind of confused,” Shaffer said.

Police said the video shows the 21-year-old driver swerving and hitting the brakes as oncoming cars approached. The driver then hits the gas and crashed head-on into the car behind Shaffer.

"I just had glanced up into my mirror and heard this crash,” Shaffer said. "Luckily, I hadn't been going fast, and they weren't going that fast, so I just pulled off the road as fast as I could because I didn't know what would happen.”

The driver has not been charged yet. The police chief told Channel 11 News that officers have no doubt the driver was drinking, but police are still waiting on blood results.

The police chief also said the same driver is accused in another DUI accident last year that seriously injured a teenage girl.

He is awaiting trial on charges of aggravated assault by vehicle under DUI.
