A New Mexico teen, who was robbed by three people just minutes before, is behind bars after a surveillance video showed him mowing down two of the suspects in his car.
Quinn Chavez, 18, was visiting the park with his friend, Christopher Gutierrez, when three people approached the vehicle with a gun and robbed Chavez, KOAT reported. But, according to Rio Rancho police Capt. Paul Rogers, the two teens weren't exactly innocent prior to the robbery.
“They weren't engaging in activity that takes place in parks,” Rogers said.
Chavez told police the suspects ran off on foot and he left the park in his car. On his way out, Chavez ran over two of the robbery suspects with video catching the act. One of the suspects was sent flying into the air on impact while the other dodged out of the way just in time.
Both people were OK following the accident and only suffered minor injuries.
Even though he started out as the victim, Chavez landed behind bars for the accident and was charged along with the suspects. “You're never excused when you're using your vehicle as a weapon,” Rogers said.
