It has been more than two years since a high wire act’s practice went horribly wrong. But the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office just released the video of the terrifying accident this week.
The video shows exactly when members of Circus Sarasota fell more than 30 feet from the high wire in February 2017 and crashed to the ground.
Eight people were stacked in a pyramid high above the ground. Five were rushed to an area hospital with injuries, but all survived, WFTS reported.
Nik Wallenda was there, and part of the formation, but was not hurt in the accident, but said at the time that it was a miracle everyone survived, WTVT reported.
One person had three broken toes, another performer, Rietta Wallenda, injured her leg and hip. She is still recovering two years later, but it could have been much worse, according to WTVT.
"She was coming down head first when some guy from the side came running in and hit her and turned her over so she didn't land straight on her head. (He) saved her life," Rick Wallenda told WTVT.
