Verizon bought AOL for a shocking amount of cash; here are 5 things to know

What does $4.4 billion get you now-a-days?
Well for Verizon, that crazy amount of cash, yes cash, just bought the communications giant one of the founding fathers of the Internet, AOL.
You remember AOL. That was the company that would send you, first the 3.5 inch floppy disks, then CD-ROMs of its program for, free! Those same disks would become data disks or CDs turned into Frisbees.
Yes AOL is still alive, and is actually among the top 25 media companies in the country according the Nielsen's data, as Journalism.org recently reported.
So what does that mean for you? Here are five points to take away from the deal.
1. According to CNN Money, the deal is part of Verizon's plan to dominate all content - television, online and publications. AOL is actually the parent company for "The Huffington Post," "Engadget" and of course aol.com.
2. AOL still has a large advertising business, about $600 million in revenue. Verizon plans to launch its own digital and video platform and a tech experts told CNN Money that AOL is tops in online video and text creation.
3. The deal still needs regulatory approval. Company officials said they do not expect a problem, and it is expected to happen sometime this summer.
4. Donald Trump is lashing out against the deal ... calling it stupid.
While Trump may think it is not a smart move for Verizon, other industry watchers disagree.
5. Finally, there are still millions, 2.1 million people to be exact, who still depend on the beeping, screeching, static sounds of dialup, according to CNN Money.
Dial-up still comes in at 56 Kilobits per second. Compare that to the average broadband speed of 11.4 Megabits per second - 200 times faster.
