A Richmond, Virginia zoo has a pair of unlikely friends.
A cheetah cub and a puppy have formed a tight bond, WRIC reported.
Kumbali the cheetah was born in May as part of a litter of four cubs.
Caretakers realized that Kumbali was losing weight, so to help him thrive, they bottle fed him, with plans of reintroducing him to his family.
But Kumbali's mother didn't produce enough milk for her cubs, so the little cub stayed with the staff, WRIC reported.
He was in desperate need of a companion, so they got him a dog.
Kago is a Lab mix puppy who is now Kumbali's best friend.
Cheetahs are social animals, making connections with other males.
Dogs have been used as cheetah companions for more than 30 years, by calming the cats.
You can see the brothers from another mother at the Metro Richmond Zoo from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday and Saturdays, they can be seen from noon to 1 p.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
