Channel 2 Action News has learned of a new security breach at Atlanta's airport. A federal employee has been arrested with a gun in his carry-on.

Channel 2 Action News first reported the FAA inspector's arrest on Friday.

Since then, two federal agencies that are supposed to protect you when you fly are taking action to crack down on security.

The latest incident happened on Tuesday, according to the TSA.

They say a Federal Aviation Administration employee was arrested at LaGuardia Airport after flying out of Hartsfield-Jackson International Atlanta Airport.

A handgun was found in the aviation inspector's carry-on bag at a TSA checkpoint. Sources say that inspector was in the cockpit with the crew.

"Clearly whatever the range of authority that exists currently is too broad," said traveler Kent McGuire.

The FAA says it will now suspend a program that allows their safety inspectors to bypass TSA security checkpoints to access secure areas of an airport.

In a statement they wrote: "The FAA will stand down the program while it conducts improved training for all of its inspectors. The agency also will require inspectors to sign a new agreement."

They say that agreement will outline each inspector's responsibilities and clearly state that "...any infraction related to a weapon will result in an immediate and permanent suspension of privileges and possible further disciplinary action."

"Extra security is always better," said traveler Jackie Crafton. "Just want everything to be safe."

The TSA is also taking the breach seriously and will put in place or at least consider additional requirements for employee screening, additional randomized security countermeasures at employee access points and additional security patrols by TSA teams.

"Until they can figure out a better way to secure the planes, seems like they need to reduce the number of people who can access these things," said McGuire.
